February 18th Cambria Companies in Edison. NJ hosted this month’s meeting and the topic was Allison Automatic Transmissions. Cambria has been in the heavy duty, over the road, truck industry for many years and represents Mack, Peterbuilt, GMC, Volvo, Autocar and Allison. Joe Cambria Sr, CEO of Cambria Companies, got the meeting started with a gracious welcome to all, a brief introduction of his company and short overview of the present economic problems we are all facing at the moment. Joe also discussed Selective Catalytic Reduction [SCR] and he sees it as a very viable answer to meet the 2010 on-road emissions. Joe then introduced the primary speaker for the evening, Richard Weber, VP of On-Highway Sales for Allison Transmission. The meetings main focus was on automatic transmissions for Class 8 trucks. Allison introduced their first 6-speed automatic truck transmission in 1956. Many see auto transmissions as the future in highway trucks, off road truck and many heavy equipment applications. Allison today manufactures automatic transmissions for motor homes, buses, fire & emergency as well as the highway trucking industry. Discussed was the applications and versatility of the different models, and the availability of a Power Take Off [ PTO] on the Rugged Duty Series which is designed for both on road and off road. The meet provided great info on what powertrain options we have today and insight on where things are heading. Cambria provided a Tex-Mex style dinner that was enjoyed by all. Thanks to the Cambria crew who did a great job of setting up and making us all feel welcome. [3-1-09]

January 21st This meeting’s topic was prepping machinery for sale or auction and also prepping & maintaining equipment for short term or long term storage. The meeting held at Foley inc in Piscataway, NJ began with Jamie Foley, president of Foley Inc welcoming everyone and thanking us for the EMCA’s efforts and contributions to the industry. Jamie also talked about the challenges facing us in 2009 and asked that we focus on the things we can control and to be a factor in helping all to “weather the difficulties” as we work thru these troubled times. Bob Meeker of Cyclone Air gave a brief overview of his company and thanked us for running an article on his company in our January newsletter. Our guest speaker was Rick Kriebel of the Hunyady Auction Company which is owned by Mike Hunyady, who is a long time EMCA member, and is a regional auction company. Rick did a great job of discussing do’s and don’ts of making equipment ready and desirable for auction and giving us a sense of what the current auction market is seeing. Following this we had Ed Snyder cover recommended practices to prep equipment for storage and what to consider if short term versus long term. Ed had some very specific items to perform to ensure the “temporary” storage does not become the machines grave. We used much of Ed’s presentation in our February newsletter as this is very timely info and as usual was excellently put together. Thanks to Foley organization for hosting us and to our speakers. Also thanks to all who attended and helped make this a rewarding evening. [2-4-09]
